her mind clears as she runs, no destination in mind yet, but knowing of both her own and lancelot's destructive power, she would prefer to leave the vicinity of any innocent civilians who may get caught up in collateral. instead, it's an empty road that she heads towards, edged by forest on one side, and otherwise leading away from the castle town.
lancelot stays hot on her trail seemingly effortlessly, a feat she hasn't seen since first meeting sonic, but it's only once they've made some distance that blaze turns, her heels against the ground skidding to a stop. ]
I repeat to you, Lancelot, I do not want to fight. You can end this here and now, before anybody gets hurt.
[ in each hand, she holds a fistful of fire, but she hardly wants to rob a royal court of its loyal knight. ]

[ that's the thing about... him, he's always up for a challenge, especially one presented before him that he's unable to turn a blind eye too. it's not about the battling, it's mostly that he won't allow this whisp of a flame to be extinguished before him.
even if he's called lancelot here who would practice patience and control, that isn't anything he needs at the moment as he skates after her with ease. it's with a quick glide against the ground to pick up speed that he jumps up, curls into a ball and swiftly sends his body in the direction of where she is knowing that her fire could come charging at him in any moment. ]
You're much more interesting than him.
[ now whether she lets him get close to her or use the forest to dodge his attack, it doesn't matter because he'll go through those trees as though there was nothing in front of him. ]
tricking me into a fight thread is crazy work
[ if that's what he stakes his honour on, then even if blaze is to disagree, she must still stand proud to represent her beliefs. exhaling as he picks up speed, skating closer, until his entire body tucks into a spin dash aimed directly at her. blaze, however, is unfortunately distracted by his words:
"him"?
the momentary falter causes her to hesitate before she attempts to twirl out of range of the attack. instead, he connects with her shoulder, and it hurts. but with nothing but a sharp intake of breath and a potential injury to show for her poor reaction time, blaze scowls; if he is taking this as seriously as he is, then so too should she.
that's why, just as his feet touch the ground, blaze is already charging towards him as fast as her feet can take her—a speed that is not to be scoffed at, almost as fast as sonic himself. her entire body is enveloped in fire, coming at him like a bullet. ]
what is he supposed to do when his pride is on the line
he doesn't move out the way, accepting the brunt of her flames on impact. it's not the best move, and the armor grows hot enough to burn at his fur, but despite how covered his entire body is, and the temperature rising all while being engulfed and being pushed back upon impact. the only difference is that he reaches out with one hand, gripping at the girl's wrist as a smirk pulls onto his muzzle.
got you, is how is practically reads, as he disappears with her and then reappearing on the opposite side, using the momentum of her body dashing to push him in flames to direct them towards a pretty large body of water.
he's not letting her go, and he pushes his legs forward to activate his shoes, speeding up the time to reach the body of water until he drags her down right with him in a loud splash, he twists his body, using force to toss her further down.
meh, she'll survive. she's proven herself more than once. ]
10000 murder hogs forever
the fire doesn't so much as flicker as they move towards the body of water. if anything, it burns hotter in a desperate last bid to force him to unhand her. but the water sizzles and bubbles as they crash through the surface, quenching her flames.
his shove pushes her deeper, enough that her feet could touch the bottom of the lake if she wished, but blaze has no such thought on her mind right now. she can barely manage to get any thoughts through the lack of oxygen, breathless after they had hit the water with such force. there's only one thing on her mind as she reaches out towards the hedgehog in front of her, taking hold of his ankle.
her gloves are hot—like she's trying to summon flames that just can't light under these circumstances—and it's with all the strength she can muster that she yanks him downwards, dragging him to her level. ]
yeah they are as wild as they come
he leans forward, raising his hand to quickly chop down at the shoulder that he recalls hitting when they were above water. since they're so close, he might as well take advantage, because even if she doesn't let him go, despite the water slowing down their movements some, he's still quick to make contact with her despite the limitations.
as the ultimate lifeform, this comes easy.
in his other hand that he holds back, there's a green crackle of energy with sound muted from the water's control, but a spear manifests within his grip, and that is also aimed in her direction — ]
whatever *rolls a 2*
she needs to surface. she was supposed to fight, but through her squinting eyes, she can only barely make out the shape of that same chaos spear she had seen him use the last time they had crossed paths. her fingers wrap around her own neck desperately as she sputters and tries to cough up her water—fingers that were supposed to be wrapped around his neck in this situation.
but there's little that can be done about it now. even her desperate kicking doesn't seem to be enough to reach the air she so desperately needs. she made her request and her confession both unprepared, and now, she suffers the consequences as her vision begins to blur and fade.
the only thing that remains is the faint outline of red and black through the bubbles. ]
damn crazy things happen
he groans in annoyance, water sloshing within his attire as he jumps with blaze in hand. it's quick, one step after the other, but to the opposite direction of the castle to where he can place her without anyone getting in the way.
with her body stretched out on the ground, the black hedgehog adjusts his helmet to remove it, and throwing it on the ground as he kneels down next to the princess to assess the damages.
a hand settles over her chest, pushing down to see if she'll come to. ]

You have bested me, Ser Lancelot. I thank you for your mercy.
[ followed by a short cough, tears welling in her eyes from the sensation of water caught where it's not supposed to be, though she blinks them away quickly.
on a normal occasion, she might hate to receive the mercy of another—the pity. here and now, however, she has her sights set higher than her own pride, leaving her no choice but to commend the person before her not only for his skill and strength, but also his grace. he could have killed her with purpose, or simply left her to die as water filled her lungs, and yet he did neither. the confusion is written all over her face, despite her thanks. ]

[ maybe it's because she's polite, but shadow doesn't care that much really as he looks down at her with a tired look. he won, that's all that matters, she's more interesting than sonic, so he will spare her life just this once.
with them away from the castle, he's able to continue. ]
That'll be enough to confuse them, they'll think I'm delivering the finishing blow.
[ clearing his throat, shadow looks off to the side as he turns his back to her next in case she needs to wring her tail and her clothes to get dry. he took advantage of the water because she's a pyrokinetic cat, and knowing that sonic is unable to handle water then maybe the same goes for her. ]
I'm tired of playing Knights and King anyway. This place will fall to ruin.

Shadow...?
[ that was his name, wasn't it? the individual who "lancelot" had so resembled? though blaze has only crossed his path enough times to count on her hands.
furthermore, "this place will fall to ruin" may be a bit excessive, and is perhaps worse than blaze's own well wishes for this kingdom, but her understanding is that this one isn't much for teamwork. pieces slot into place one by one as he turns around, and she takes the opportunity to shake dry—with her particular talents, it isn't difficult to return her fur to its previous state.
and then, a step forward. truthfully, her prior words feel almost embarrassing now, but there's no choice now but to move forward. with that in mind: ]
I don't believe we've formally met.

[ he only played the part due to it being an easy way to get around, but with both of their honorary knights not who they are, there will be ruin. whatever that girl, merlina, there's something sinister about her that he can't quite figure out.
sucking at his teeth with a roll of his eyes. ]
Don't get used to it.
[ of them meeting or running into one another, but he isn't as hasn't officially brushed her off yet as he looks the girl up and down. her fur has returned to becoming dry and perfect as it was before, but his own body remains wet as he doesn't share the same skillset. ]
That "King", if he notices who we are; he won't be against killing us.
no subject
Very well, but I cannot afford to remain here any longer. Can you?
[ it's a challenge, but an honest question too. perhaps he can afford to stay here and pass his time in a more carefree way than herself, but for blaze, her people need her. even if she only takes one step at a time to return to her world, steps must be taken.
though, catching up to his side, she eyes shadow for a moment before... ]
Would you like me to dry you off?
[ it feels like the least she can do after he saved her from drowning. even if... he was also the cause of that. ]
no subject
[ remember, shadow comes and goes as he pleases, the only reason he needs to leave this place is that it's pretty limiting to what he does. the sworn loyalty of lancelot does not match what shadow would do himself, and so the charade gets tiring after awhile.
he has nothing to pay forward aside from doing what comes along, as for blaze, there are her citizens. ]
You can.
[ that or he runs it off, but what stands out to him more is: ]
You can use your emeralds to get around, did you lose them on landing here?
no subject
When I awoke here, I did not have them. I can only imagine they're being safely guarded in the palace as we speak.
[ that's what she had arranged for, after, in the event of her absence. as unfortunate as it is that she can't be the one to guard them now, that's the very reason why it's so important for her to return. she wants to ask him: does he have no responsibilities? no duties? but for now, she bites her tongue.
she is in no position to look a gift horse in the mouth, so to speak; she has no reason to question his motives if he is offering his help. ]
What of yours—the Chaos Emeralds?
no subject
[ a simple answer for a simple question, he appeared here without, but this world must work on some sort of power source. there has to be something close to the emeralds, but if not that, his eyes drop down to the sword at his side. ]
I woke with this, but nothing more.
[ he unsheathes the blade, it's sharp end shimmering under the sunlight before he brings it down back to the holster. ]
It must have been the same of you.
[ if she doesn't have hers. ]

[ the sword at her side feels heavy and unfamiliar, and blaze can't say that she feels particularly safer for it. she's much more used to using her body and her flames to protect herself, as demonstrated by their own fight. still, she notes the timing of his bringing them up and nods, leaving her own blade sheathed.
instead, crosses her arms, thoughtful. ]
Then the Knights welcomed me into their ranks, and I thought to learn more of this place from among them. Including a way back.
[ of course... ]
When that information did not arise, I made a decision.

[ think of all the kids who loved percival, but that's not what he's getting at here. with her mask ripped away, they're liable to create other issues. if she's not percival then who is she, and what of the knights? they'll have someone attempt to best them at every turn.
those that would wish to return to the world that she speaks so highly of. ]
The swords are highly sought after, aren't they?
no subject
[ she supposes it wouldn't be an undue suspicion. a knight guards their weapon as closely as that weapon guards them—those of the round table only seem to take this lesson especially seriously.
blaze's hand rests on the grip of her own sword, laevatein, as she thinks it over. ]
no subject
[ why does she think he's been keeping his own blade on him. the hedgehog places a hand on the handle. ]
These are connected to this world. We'll have to take advantage of what we have.
[ that being said, he glances towards blaze unimpressed. ] However, we don't know what you because of your sudden outburst.
no subject
[ one door closing means another one will open, as they say. blaze doesn't particularly see a problem with her actions because of this, and the fact of the matter is that they will be stronger together than they would be apart. this is at the forefront of her mind as shadow brings attention to their swords even more so.
anyway, she doubts shadow would have taken the initiative to approach her had she not done that. ]
In any case, now that I have you listening, I will repeat myself: I've found something of interest too.
no subject
[ there were many others ways to work together, instead it initiated a fight which could have led to her a little broken in a few places she wouldn't like.
also, his willingness to help isn't that strong depending on her resources. ]
What did you find of interest?
[ he sighs, not caring but also there's a small hope that it is useful. nothing in this place seems to be helpful when he wants it to be. ]
